Lucas Scott’s ‘The Comet’ Reviews
I wrote down all the reviews that were on the back of his book The Comet.
Lucas Scott’s sophomore effort is a moving portrait of lost love. It will turn even the most cynical reader into a hopeless romantic.
Lucas Scott reaches for the stars and ends up capturing THE COMET in his in his meditative follow-up to An Unkindness of Ravens.
Moody and evocative, Scott’s prose sings and his sentiment overwhelms in The Comet. Rich with metaphor and infused with the most emotional slow-burn one would expect from a heavenly body, fans of Scott’s first novel would need the presence of Tiresian to see the change of pace coming.
The comet takes off on the first page and hurtles across the reader’s imagination, leave a starburst that lingers long after the final words.
The second effort, The Comet, proves that Lucas Scott is a young literary talent that will be with us for some time.

OTH - Season 6 Episode 5 You’ve Dug Your Own Grave, Now Lie In It Review
Hey all. Sorry I didnt post this last night, but I was working on the other blog.... But, I did write it lastnight, if that counts at all. LOL..... So here it is.
So tonight was good. Not the heart-stopping ride I was expecting but it was good. Finally felt like there was actually movement in story lines instead of just setting up some. So here’s a few thoughts…
Glad the truth came out to Lindsey and glad to see she still supports Leyton. Was a little scared that was going to go down all wrong.
It was good once again to see a little bit of fire in Brooke. It’s small but there was a glimmer of hope with her and Millicent. I’m really excited to watch Brooke do what she did in all those years we never got to see but this time she’s smarter and wiser and stronger. It’s going to be good.
So Mick is her father. I doubt one person is surprised. And he’s still not grown up enough to handle it. But is Peyton strong enough to take him leaving her again?
I was honestly surprised at the GM’s offer to coach to Nathan. I was wondering how he got to this slamball thing and now it makes sense…the NBA thinks he’s too injured to play right now so he’s going to have to prove himself on a different court.
And the highlight of the episode was the Carrie storyline. My heart did stop for a second in that corn field with Jamie. I had no clue who grabbed him from the side but SO glad it was Haley. I actually really loved that Deb and Dan were the ones to save Jamie. Apart for so long yet working together in a way to keep their grandchild safe. I actually liked Deb and Dan together in early seasons and it was good to see them. In a crazy nanny, evil Dan sort of way I guess. Let’s murder someone together! Woot woot! Carrie got what she deserved and unlike Quentin I don’t feel remorse for her. I mean, I don’t like to see anyone killed but really, it was SO time for that to END. Not sure how much therapy Jamie’s going to need for that but at least he wasn’t hurt. Not sure my little heart could have taken that. I think they could have spent more time in the suspenseful part of those scenes. We basically saw it all and ruined it a bit for me. I thought we were going to be in a big hunt for Jamie for half the episode but they made it short and sweet. I think it hurt it a little bit if you ask me. Interesting to see how it gets spun to the cops. Technically Dan wasn’t threatened with his life that second time. Either they lie and say she was shot all at once or they let him off because all that had happened to him. Either way, I think Carrie’s dead and THAT is a good thing. End of Nanny Carrie’s storyline. Finally.

OTH - Season 6 Episode 4 Bridge Over Troubled Water
Wow, tonight surprised me. I figured not much was going to happen but I was really happy at the end. I finally felt like we got a drama filled episode and not a soap-opera filled episode. Now, I love me some high drama. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve enjoyed the first three eps immensely. Some of the best we’ve ever had. So I thought tonight would pale in comparison but it was really, really good.
It was good to see the same shrink again LOL. It was just enough to push Brooke in the right direction. I liked seeing some spunk back in Brooke again. I can’t believe the audacity of Victoria. Hardly caring that she’d been hurt and almost in the same breath tell her about her parents failed marriage and that Brooke was a mistake. I think Brooke finally saw the light with her mother. That Brooke wasn’t the unlovable, broken one she always thought she was..that Victoria has the issues and I love the line at the end Brooke gives about Victoria getting her dreams.
Still not sure I’m believing this whole Skills/Deb thing. I can see they make each other happy but I don’t know. It’s weird. Not as creepy but I’m with Nathan..fine, if you want to be happy but just don’t give me the details. And wasn’t Jamie calling Nathan out on Nathan kissing his mom the most hilarious thing? We were dying laughing. Luke’s comment to Nathan about Skills nickname we saw on the promo was still funny.
Enjoyed very much something we DIDN’T see…Dan/Carrie scenes. Maybe that’s why it was so good! The only thing I did not like about that storyline was the scene with Deb and Carrie. I DO NOT buy it that Deb doesn’t know what Carrie looks like. If someone stole my grandson and they were still around, you better be sure I’d know what they looked like. Yes, maybe there was no time for pictures but come on! That was a stretch.
The dedication to Q was nice. Chad always does so well with the heartfelt speeches. I loved how the players stepped up and wanted to play a four man season. I also enjoyed seeing glimpses of Q throughout the show. But honestly, I hope we are over that. Enough sadness. And I think the scene at the end with Nathan and Skills was wonderful. Two friends silently making everything ok between them and someone coming in to fill Q’s shoes to help Nathan. I liked it. Once again, I’m very impressed with James’ acting. Just his looks and his pauses. You can feel his emotions without him saying a word. All very nice. Good job, James.
Lucas and Peyton were almost non-existent this ep and that is ok. Luke took care of his team and Peyton was dealing with a man she thought might be her father. And speaking of…is there anyone convinced that he is anyone BUT her father? Why bring him in unless he either knew something about her father or was her father? And he’s already said he didn’t know him so he must be him. I’d like to see where this goes because I’ll be shocked if he’s anything but her father.
One other note is I loved the CODA song. It was different than normal I think but good.
So I guess that’s it. Next week looks like the big Nanny Carrie showdown and THANK GOODNESS. My heart will be in my throat while Jamie is in danger but I think it’s going to be great…especially if it involves Carrie in pain! Ah yes, I feel the soap opera moments coming back!

OTH - Season 6 Episode 3 Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
Sorry for this being so late, But I have just been caught up. I actually wrote this the same night as the episode aired.... So here goes.
Tonight was sad. What other way can I put it? Parts were really hard to watch. Here are a few of my notes about it.
The music was gorgeous tonight.
Nathan stepping up to say he’d tell Jamie was endearing but them deciding to do it together was awesome. I love that they are being a solid couple. In fact, they had to make a lot of tough decisions as parents tonight.
Jamie not quite understanding death broke my heart.
Denise’s speech to Nathan, Haley, Lucas and Skills was amazing. Kudos to the writers and Denise’s character for boldly talking about Christ and their faith instead of beating around the bush.
Lucas and Peyton’s moment in his their room was just enough LP for this episode. I loved the fact Luke was still thinking about the wedding and Peyton knew it wasn’t the time. And the fact they talked about it being like marriage was almost an “inside squee” moment given the circumstances.
James Lafferty ROCKED his scene with Sophia. Wow. That scene came out of nowhere and I’m so glad it did. Nathan was awesome to Brooke and the fact he was looking back on their paths and seeing similarities is something I hadn’t thought of and I really, really liked that. His lines were heartfelt and well-delivered and I’m just loving this new, solid man that Nathan Scott has become.
I could have done without the Dan/Carrie scenes but wasn’t it a nice plot-twist with the whole son thing? Wow! I wasn’t expecting that one either. It sure explains a lot and yet opens up a whole other set of questions!
I loved how it came out that the voice-over was Sam’s paper she wrote.
The last scene though really got me. First Jamie with the cape and then Brooke looking like she had her moment and let go. I hope in some way that moment started her healing.
This was a beautiful episode, one that everyone who worked on it should be proud of. I think it did Quentin justice and even was able to move a few plots forward a bit. I cried so much. It really choked me up. AWESOME EPISODE......

One Tree Hill Exclusive: Derek’s Back!
But which Derek?
Hint: He’s not crazy.
That’s right — Ernest Waddell is returning to the CW’s One Tree Hill this season, and for multiple episodes, sources tell TVGuide.com.
As best to my knowledge, shortly after Peyton’s momma, Ellie, passed on, she learned she had a half-brother out there, somewhere. Enter Psycho Derek (played by Matt Barr). That Derek, however, was just a poser/flim-flam man/all-out psycho.
Just as “Derek” got his comeuppance, Peyton’s actual sibling surfaced, and he was a tough-as-nails Marine with a tender heart. After a four-episode run in 2006, Waddell’s Derek was deployed to Iraq, but not until he could escort his sis to a basketball banquet honoring Nathan.

`One Tree Hill’ survives for sixth season`
WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — When “One Tree Hill” debuted in the fall 2003, creator Mark Schwahn remembers, the ratings were so low that “even my mother didn’t know we were on the air.”
“We didn’t even know if we would get a season two,” Schwahn said. “We were the lowest-rated show on any channel the week we debuted, but we were the only show to pick up every week for the next six weeks. We were so low, we were like a test pattern.”
But backed by an ardent fan base, who still travel from all over the world to coastal North Carolina in hopes of seeing one of the show’s young stars, “One Tree Hill” survived to a sixth season, airing at 9 p.m. Mondays on the CW. It reached the magic 100 episodes needed for syndication in March, and with this season matches the tenure of “Dawson’s Creek” — the teen-angst drama that preceded “One Tree Hill” in Wilmington and on the WB.
“When we were in our second and third seasons, it was not fathomable to me that we would be here today, in our sixth season,” actor James Lafferty said.
Schwahn originally pitched the show as a movie titled “The Ravens,” but it became a series about two half-brothers — played by Lafferty and Chad Michael Murray — in the fictional town Tree Hill, N.C., who compete both on and off the basketball court.
Originally slated as a midseason replacement on what was then the WB network, “One Tree Hill” moved to a September debut after another pilot fell through. The show has never been a critical favorite, and the actors don’t hesitate to note how they have succeeded even without much support from their own network.
“We have never been supported by a big PR push or big marketing campaign,” said Sophia Bush, who as Brooke Davis competes for the affections of Murray’s Lucas Scott.
“We really have never been anybody’s baby the way that shows that sort of have a guarantee of multiple seasons generally are,” she said. “So for us, it’s really been every year about our fans and their loyalty bringing us back and putting us back on the air.”
Still, the show was growing stale when Schwahn decided before the start of season five to move everything forward by four years, skipping the characters’ time in college. It avoided the awkward end of “Dawson’s Creek,” which had to come up with reasons for its graduated high schoolers to either stay in town or find repeated ways to stay in touch after leaving for college or out-of-town jobs.
“When Mark said, ‘I want to do this,’ I was so relieved,” said the 26-year-old Bush. “The last thing I wanted to do was go to college on the show. We’ve all seen the college years, and they don’t work. Ever.”
The aging of “One Tree Hill” reinvigorated both the actors and the show’s fans. The average ratings rebounded to 3.5 million viewers in season five, the same as in the show’s first.
“When we made the decision, I think everybody here was excited. I know I was. Just the opportunity to play a little bit closer to your age,” said the 27-year-old Murray. “Lucas was a little bit of a whiny 16-year-old. We had to change that up a little bit. And I’m damn happy about it.”
The older Brooke is now the owner of her own clothing line, while Lucas is about to publish his second novel. Lafferty’s Nathan Scott and Bethany Joy Galeotti’s Haley James are struggling with the trials of marrying and having a child at a young age.
Hilarie Burton’s Peyton Sawyer, another love interest for Lucas, is owner of her own company — Red Bedroom Records. Season five ended with a cliffhanger about whom Lucas would ask to marry, and the premiere showed that Peyton was the one.
“Peyton’s gone from being such an extremist in high school, which was hard for me because I’m pretty mellow, to being a calmer adult,” said the 26-year-old Burton. “This year has been nice because all of us actors are just happy. We’re all having a good time. We’re happy with our jobs. We’re happy with our lives.”
The actors themselves have grown up on the set. Murray and Bush were married briefly in 2005. The 23-year-old Lafferty was only 17 when the pilot was filmed. Burton has settled into Wilmington, where the series is filmed at EUE/Screen Gem Studios, buying a house during the first season and later opening a production company — Southern Gothic Films.
Asked if a seventh season would interfere with her plans for the production company, Burton said: “You would be surprised at how well I multitask.”
The contracts for Burton and the rest of the cast are up at the end of this season, Schwahn and executive producer Joe Davola said the studio and the network are talking about a seventh. After starting in the shadow of “Dawson’s Creek,” Lafferty concedes he didn’t think “One Tree Hill” would last as long.
“We’ve been able to tell all the stories we wanted to tell and do all the things we wanted to do with our characters and there really is no greater reward than to be able to look back on the past six years and say we did it,” he said. “We really made it. Not a lot of shows make it as far as we did.”

OTH - Season 6 Episode 2 One Million Billioneth Millisecond of a Sunday Morning Review
Wow, anyone still have tears from Q? Or at least Jamie asking hard questions about Q? That was tough! Wow, what an episode. Here are my thoughts…
Dan and Carrie - ok, it’s officially old. I’m done with the torture.
Skills and Deb - I think I actually liked them during their real conversation. For half a second there, I saw the old Deb and I liked her. And I didn’t mind that Skills was with her.
Nathan/Haley - Their storyline seems to be slow moving. As much as I like to see Nathan playing ball, I’m a little tired of the high school gym practices. I did like the whole “intervention” with Nathan. I’m glad it was an issue, they dealt with it and it was over. That really could hae been dragged out and painful if the writers wanted to make drama. Haley and Jamie were cute together although it was seemed a little forced knowing what was coming with Q. I did like Naley’s talk at the RC. The whole “Haley James pick up lines” was so cute and to think Nathan was trying so hard to impress Haley even with the way he was back then was so cute. I love when the writers tie in some old school OTH.
Lucas and Peyton - I loved the voiceover at the beginning that turned into Lucas talking to Peyton. I think it’s an interesting idea that at times of his voiceovers, maybe he was talking to Peyton all along. I don’t know if that works, but maybe. In this case, I really liked it. I liked that they were just talking. No drama. No cheesy lines. Just talk. OK, the part about sleeping on the floor was some cheese. But I loved it. It was like asking her to marry him all over again.
Their airplane scene was ewwww..but cute. I love how they’re planning their wedding. They’re just so darn happy and I love it. He’s so sweet to her I awwww at the screen.
They’re moving in together!!! As much as I don’t recommend that…awwww…they’re moving in together. And Lucas packed up her stuff. And Jamie was there. Awwww…
Ok, lets get down to business though.
Brooke -I feel so bad for her. That dark place she’s supposed to go to? She’s there. Down deep. She’s dug her heels in and she’s not going anywhere for awhile. She can’t even tell her best friend how she got hurt. Is she really worried about the media? I think there’s more to it than that. I think it’s a little shocking she called Deb but I think I like that pairing. Something new and it’s really good to see Deb in a motherly role again. Brooke telling Peyton about the stairs was almost funny if it wasn’t so heartbreaking to look at her bruises. Brooke was still trying to be funny Brooke. At first I was surprised that Peyton took Brooke’s word for it that she fell down the stairs but I think when they sat on the couch it seemed Peyton knew that something else was up. With her question about Angie I think she was trying to call Brooke out on what she said hoping Brooke would tell her what was going on and yet not pushing her. It’s going to be interesting to see how this Deb/Brooke relationship plays out. How far will she let Brooke go before she calls the police or at least tells her friends?
And lastly Q - Honestly I was spoiled on Q’s death (I mean, I had been reading the spoilers for months now) but it didn’t make it any less heart wrenching. All the stuff leading up to it…the cape, the box, Haley’s pep talk and hearing his dreams, the heart to heart with Nathan…was it all a little contrived and obvious? Yeah, but so what. We’re all finally liking Q and we’re being brought to that dramatic peak where we really see him interacting with the other characters and seeing who he really is and then we’re shot down to that valley where his life is taken. Of course the question is who shot him? Was it a random store robbery or something more planned? Did Carrie leave Dan and go off the deep end for some reason?
But the part that really got me and yes, had me in tears was the promo for next week with Jamie asking so many questions about Q! It broke my heart in a thousand pieces and I think I was glad it was the one time I watched the episode by myself. Having two children, I just can’t imagine what Nathan and Haley are going through. Nathan must feel some responsibility knowing he might could have changed it had he practiced longer and then having to explain it all to Jamie. It’s awful.
Was this the best episode ever? No I don’t think you could say that. But I almost see last week’s as an ending to season 5 and then this week as a new start. Brooke has now started this new relationship with Deb, Deb and Skills seem to have gone to a new level, Nathan seems to be at his peak on his practice and ready to move on, Lucas and Peyton now start real life as a couple, they now have to deal with Q, even looks like Carrie needs to make new plans. I definitely see this as more of ground-laying episode but I think it had its share of good moments and count it a winner.

OTH - Season 6 Episode 1 (Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Part 1)
OH MY WORD, I’ve said it like a hundred times already but THAT WAS THE BEST EPISODE OF ONE TREE HILL EVER IN THE HISTORY OF ONE TREE HILL. Well, at least for Leyton fans. And really…I’ve even had some Brucas fans admit that they were pretty cute together.
As I find myself so many times writing these things, I don’t even know where to start!!
I think I just have to start rambling.
The anniversary scenes…I loved them. The Brucas fan in me loved the wife and husband comments. Wow, we even got a Brucas kiss..how long has it been?Lindsey and Lucas’ scene..eh. Very casual there. And I love the comment..they were easy together. Yes, they were easy together. They got along fine and until Peyton came between they probably could see themselves together because they were happy. But it wasn’t the same as…
Lucas and Peyton on their anniversary. It seemed so right. I almost could feel the cookie dough fight all over again in that place with them together joking and laughing with one another. I loved how he couldn’t handle the thought of Peyton in sexy underwear.I liked Gus. I loved his wise words to Lucas. I’ve really missed that figure in Lucas’ life and while Gus probably isn’t someone that will be there, it was nice in a moment of such heavy decisions, he was there for him.
The airport scene. Well, the look in Lucas’ face when he saw her was just priceless. Pure joy. Everything melted away in that moment. Gone was the drunken, depressed, heartbroken Lucas. It may have been a sudden change, but it was a beautiful moment of awakening for him. But once again, what is with Peyton laughing when they kiss? She does that so much. I was kinda hoping for a sexier moment there but I’m not going to complain too much. Her joy was overflowing and that’s fine with me.
Them in the Vegas room…her mirror comment was HILARIOUS. I loved that. Now only if we got to see it in action…did I really just saw that out loud?? You know you were thinking it too!! I mean really, we should have at least seen a shirt come off there! LOL
The text messages were adorable although I didn’t really understand the significance of bringing Psycho Derek up so much! What is with that? The chapel scene was too funny. You’ll never hear me say it again but I’m glad they didn’t get married. Wow, that was some cheesy mess. But oh my, going back to the original hotel room and then them repeating the lines from 5×18! That was wonderful! I was spoiled on the fact he didn’t really get to propose so I expected it but I still didn’t like it much that he didn’t do a full-on proposal. I would have liked some romantic lines there. But they got engaged! Woot! Woot! The amount of Leyton goodness was just off the charts this episode. Unbelievable. It’s like Season 5 never really happened and we were seeing where they SHOULD have been right after Season 4. It was a beautiful thing to watch.
OK, on to the rest of the episode!
Jamie and Quentin were so funny and cute in this episode. I loved how they brought something the fans enjoyed in real life at the game and put it in an episode. Thank you, Mark! Haley learning the dance was so cute! In fact, even though Naley didn’t get too many scenes, we did get a little kiss from them and they really seem so happy. And really, isn’t that the point they are at right now? They got through Carrie and are on the mend.
Deb and Skills. I honestly can’t tell if they’re growing on me or not. There’s definitely a comedic quality to them but I’m not to the point where I’m seeing anything but cougar quality. Not feelin’ the love on that one yet. Nathan is hilarious though. I loved his “scarred for life” comment.
Mouth and Millicent. I was about to have heart failure when Millicent said she wouldn’t go with Mouth. I was like, hey, wait a minute! You’re supposed to be with Mouth! Brooke and Mouth were sweet together. I loved her question about who topped me although it was a bit sad. First she loses her mother and then Mouth :( But more on Brooke in a minute. I was shocked Brooke fired Millicent and then Millicent was like OK! A little weird but I’m glad Millicent is going with Mouth.
Poor Brooke. I can’t believe the way Victoria is acting. I’m proud of Brooke wanting to stand up for her line. And the way she stood up to Sam. That was awesome. She is not taking the crap now. But how is she supposed to fight a robber like that? I was blown away at that scene. I couldn’t believe how he was beating her down. Poor thing. No wonder she goes to a dark place this season!
And finally can we talk about Psycho Nanny Carrie. Did Mark watch a little Stephen King before writing this? Wow. Pretty intense stuff there. Definitely earned the show the title of soap opera drama. Is it possible I actually feel bad for Dan? I did. I do. Nanny Carrie has seriously lost her mind. And you know…I was surprised she was after Jamie and not Nathan. That threw me for a little loop there.
So let me stop rambling. That was hands down my favorite episode ever. It moved nicely, the writing was so awesome and it had so much Leyton I could hardly stand myself.
Previews for next week look even better.
